Polyethylene wax in the cable industry
Polyethylene wax is used in the production of impregnating material for paper cable insulation. The impregnation composition must have a high viscosity at operating temperatures of 50-80 ° C and a low coefficient of thermal expansion. In such compositions, wax plays an important role as a thickener of the impregnating mass. Non-oxidized polyethylene wax of medium viscosity is introduced into the composition in an amount of 1-5%.
Polyethylene wax is an indispensable component in the manufacture of polyethylene cable products as a plasticizer and modifier of adhesive properties.
Non-oxidized polyethylene wax is a part of electrical insulation compositions intended for cable sheaths and insulation. In an amount of 0.1- 5%, it gives plasticity and increases the machinability of compositions.
In addition, polyethylene wax is actively used in the production of hydrophobic cable filler, used mainly in signal-blocking and communication cables. The filler prevents water from spreading along the cable core. Polyethylene wax with a viscosity of 180-300 MPa * s at 140 ℃ in an amount of 12-25% is introduced into the hydrophobic filler.
It is also worth noting that polyethylene waxes are actively used in the manufacture of PVC cable insulation. The content of polyethylene wax in the composition increases the extrusion performance of the PVC composition, simplifies the unloading of the compound from the internal mixer and prevents agglomeration of the finished mixture. It also has an external lubricating effect.
Basic properties:
